A young girl scalloping in St. Joseph Bay

FWC has announced the closure of the 2026 recreational bay scallop harvest season in the Gulf County Zone due to very low bay scallop abundance. While scallop harvesting is prohibited this season, Gulf County waters remain open for other recreational activities, including fishing, boating and swimming.

Horseback Riding

Cruise the mane drag for a vacation memory by taking a horseback ride on the beach.

Whether it’s riding off into a sunset, or a private excursion for family photos, a horseback ride on Cape San Blas is a great way to make memories. Someone once said, “you can’t take a bad picture out here” and with local owners who love to customize packages for special occasions such as proposals or just a romantic campfire on the beach, a picture is worth a thousand words.  All trips are at a comfortable walking pace and last about one hour; riding experience is not necessary. Gulf County has had guides in business, since 1995, with professionally-trained horses that love their jobs.  Check horseback ride on the beach off your bucket list.
